Before you go out and buy those new chairs you should make sure they’ll work with your room, your entertainment style, and your table of course. Here are some things to consider before making your buy.
1. Super Size It
Measure up your chairs. A standard width is 22 inches for a chair that has no arms but you might consider going bigger especially if you have guests that are on the larger size. Never buy chairs that are narrower than 17 inches because they just aren’t comfortable not even for the sort time it takes to eat a meal. Besides being concerned about the width you should get a maximum depth of 22 inches for optimum comfort.
2. Design It
What’s the look you are after? Is it contemporary? Traditional? Chic? Funky? Consider the look of your table and then add chairs that compliment it. Of course your chairs don’t need to match but they do need to work with the table’s height and size.
3. How High Can You Go?
You seat height will be determined by the height of your table. You should have at least 12 inches from the top of the table to the top of the seat.
4. What Upholstery?
If you want something that’s incredibly easy to clean and care for go for a leather or faux leather finish. Lift will be very simple. Microfiber and ultrasuede are also terrific choices. Stay away from fabrics like velvet, chenille, or other heavy naps because they will quickly show wear. Manmade fibers combined with natural fibers provide a good choice then just scotchguard for protection.
There are some terrific patterned fabrics on the market and if you are mixing it up you can either choose complimentary fabrics or contrasting. In fact if you like a really bold statement you can choose fabrics that are very different in color, pattern, and texture.
5. Short or Tall
Today’s tables have grown in height and it’s a great look I might add. However if you have one of these taller tables traditional chairs aren’t going to do you much good so remember this. If you are replacing your table too then you’ll have to decide what style of table is best for you. Those taller tables aren’t that great with kids and tend to be more yuppie orientated.
Your table and chairs will say plenty about you so put some time into deciding what the look is you want to achieve. These five areas to consider will help you make the most out of your table and chairs.
Now all that’s left to decide is which dining chair will it be?
